I have good intentions of not buying yarn for a while and knitting from my stash. I fail miserably, but hey, I have good intentions, right?
As I was knitting my clapotis the other day I felt a sense of accomplishment because I was using 4 skeins of yarn from my stash to make the clapotis. Yay for destashing!
But, was I really destashing? Because I bought that yarn specifically to make the clapotis. Sure, it’s been sitting in my stash for four years, but was it really stash yarn since I bought it to make a specific project? Several times throughout the years I considered using the yarn to make something else, but I always chose something else, leaving this yarn for the clapotis as I had intended.
On Saturday I bought yarn for 3 (well, 2.5 really) projects. I have added to the yarn collective in my home knows as stash. But is it really stash yarn? As with the clapotis yarn, I guess there is always the possibility to make something else with said yarn, but if I end up making the planned projects, was this yarn ever stash yarn?
I say no. I can’t say that yarn that was purchased for a specific project, and ultimately ends up being used for said project, is stash yarn. But what if I make something else out of it. Then was it stash yarn? It’s the same yarn!
I sort of like this-is-not-stash-yarn idea. That means I don’t have to feel as guilty about the shear volume of yarn I own. Much of it already has projects attached to it! Yay!

I’ve had a hard time taking a photo that truly shows the colors of this yarn. This was as close as I could get. It’s forest green, navy blue, and black. I love the colors.

After almost a year of pining after TOFUtsies, I finally bought a ball. I had a hard time choosing a color, but I ultimately settled on Footlights, which looked perfect for summer. It’s too bad I probably won’t get around to knitting it up before the end of summer. I actually purchased this a few weeks ago, maybe more than a month ago, but finally decided to post it today because I’m going to a yarn sale tomorrow, so I figured I should take care of this before trying to deal with posting about tomorrow’s purchases. I’m hoping I won’t buy too much. I will try to control myself. 🙂

Yesterday one of my favorite bands performed a set that was streaming live on the Internet (I provided a link because this show, along with some others, are now archived for your viewing pleasure). Our television is connected to my boyfriend’s computer, so we watched it on our nice, big television.
My goal yesterday was twofold: Finish the Froot Loop socks, and to get a lot of work done on Clapotis. I finished the socks in the morning, and I decided to use the concert viewing time to work on Clapotis.
All was going well until, midway through the show, I realized that I didn’t have enough yarn to do another row, and the other requisite balls of yarn were in my bedroom. This would mean getting up and missing part of the concert, if only for 30 seconds. This was not acceptable to me. What was I to do?
Then it dawned on me. Earlier in the day I brought into the living room a few sock patterns and 2 balls of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Devon. I was trying to determine which socks I would start next, though I wasn’t intending to start the socks until at least Monday. Because of my lack of Clapotis yarn (even though it was like 30 feet away in another room) I started the socks early. It’s a good thing I was considering sock patterns earlier in the day!

Pattern: Froot Loop
Yarn: Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Line Steps Color in color 5374
Needles: US 1 DPNs
Now it’s time to focus on Clapotis. Though soon that will be too big to travel with. Hmm. Another pair of socks? My Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Devon has been wound for a while, I should probably start using that, huh?

It’s been a long time since I could say I had a good knitting weekend. My new job has left me with less free time, and I’ve had a hard time deciding how to prioritize that time. I have also traveled for all or part of the last 3 weekends, greatly limiting my free time.
This weekend, however, I had a great knitting weekend. It started on Friday where I finished the leg on my Froot Loop socks. I had to stop there because I thought I didn’t bring my pattern to Beth’s house with me. Turned out it was deep in the bottom of my bag, and even though I looked twice I didn’t see it. Oh well.
On Saturday Tim and I went to a coffee shop and got some food. While Tim worked on that day’s sudoku in the newspaper I worked on the heel flap.
Then today, while watching television and chilling at Tim’s parents’ house, I turned the heel, made the gusset, and got half-way through the foot. If I give myself a couple of good nights of knitting this week it should be finished before the weekend. We shall see how much knitting I will get done. I really want to finish a project soon, so I’m gunning hard on these.

How excited am I for the Knitscene Fall 2008 preview?
Here’s what I want to make for myself:
Riding to Avalon
That’s not to say I don’t like the other patterns, I’m just not sure how they would be for me. There wasn’t anything that I think I wouldn’t want to make. Yay!
