Yarn Pr0n – Kureyon Sock

Posted by Andi on February 25, 2008

I am very disappointed in myself for breaking my self-imposed ban on new yarn. I had to go to Loopy to get a birthday present for a friend when this caught my eye:

Noro Kureyon Sock - S185

How could I not buy that? It’s beautiful!

I blame my friend. If it weren’t for her birthday I never would have been in a LYS to begin with.

And we’re back

Posted by Andi on February 16, 2008

I’m knitting again today! Yay!

It’s been over a week since I’ve done any real knitting. Last Saturday I got a tattoo on my arm touched up.

Touched Up

This picture was taken on Saturday. Now there are only 3 little tiny scabby bits, otherwise it’s pretty much back to normal.

Obviously my arm was a tad bit sore, so I really didn’t feel like moving it to knit. On Sunday I found that if I lounged on the couch with my elbow on the couch it didn’t hurt so much, probably because I was only using my arm to knit, and not actually holding it up as well. Even then I could only knit for a short time before it was too sore, and I could only work on the Phiaro scarf since it just involves stockinette stitch in the round.

Then I spent two days at my dad and stepmom’s house. They have a new puppy, and I knew knitting wouldn’t be easy around her. Once she calmed down the other dog spent all evening throwing up. Instead of knitting I was cleaning dog puke all night.

Finally today I can knit. I worked on Phiaro a bit so far this morning, up until the point where I have to change balls of yarn. I’ll probably work on the piano scarf for the rest of the day while watching 5th round FA cup matches.

WIP – Phiaro scarf

Posted by Andi on February 10, 2008

WIP - phiaro scarf

It’s coming along. I got enough done to really see how the colorway is, and I really like it. I expected it to have more white in it, and maybe to have some black. It doesn’t, but I think this is better. It’s more appropriate for summer. I can’t wait to finish it!

New WIP: Phiaro Scarf

Posted by Andi on February 4, 2008

I started a new project. I cast on for the phiaro scarf on Saturday. I liked it so much I cast on four times! The first time I started knitting with the tail, and did enough stitches that it was quicker for me to frog and cast on again than it would have been for me to tink. The next two cast ons resulted in twisted stitches, even though I thought I checked both times. Finally, late Saturday night, I got it right.

I think this is the perfect project for knitting in public. Once it is properly cast on and joined, all you do is knit in the round for a while. I can go to knitting group and not deal with working with two colors and a chart, as I’m doing for the piano scarf. I took it to my friends’ home last night and worked on it while drinking beer and watching the Super Bowl. I can do a few stitches while waiting for YouTube videos to load, and I can put it down at any point. At this point I really don’t think I can mess it up!

I’m loving the yarn, which is South West Trading Company Oasis. I love working with it. I like how it feels. I can’t wait to wear this scarf.

My only concern is how I am going to change balls of yarn. Many of the stitches end up being dropped, and I want to make sure I don’t add a new ball of yarn on a stitch that is to be dropped. I think I will be okay if I do some counting of stitches before adding the new yarn. We shall see.

ETA: This is also the perfect project for when you are sick!  You know, when you are bored, but can’t think too much and you might get tired at any time so it has to be something you can just throw down at any moment.
