Finish, Frog, & Slog-along
Posted by Andi on February 19, 2012
During the 7+ hours of flight time I had in the past two days I managed to catch up on some knitting and some knitting podcasts, and in so doing learned about the Finish, Frog, & Slog-along the women from the Doubleknit Podcast have started. Basically, everyone posts about their UFOs, the projects that they just want to frog but haven’t done so yet, or to get support on those projects that seem to be taking forever.
I know I don’t need another knitting challenge this year, but I think this dovetails nicely with some of the things I really have to get done. I’ve come up with at least five projects I can participate with.
The first two are related, and there are both UFOs: my Flocked Mittens and Gerda’s Scarf. I wanted both of these done before winter started, and neither one is even half way there. The scarf isn’t even 25% done. My new goal is to have these ready by the start of next winter. At least I finished the hat!!
My other three projects need to be frogged. The first is Poinsettia. I don’t know why I even started this sweater in the first place. The knitting is done so it only needs to be finished, but no. I’m not doing it. I’m frogging it instead and finding a much better use for the yarn.
I was digging through my stash a few months ago and found this half-completed baby outfit. It was pants and a wrap sweater sort of thing. It’s cute, but not finished. I have no idea who I was making it for, and whether or not I even have the pattern anymore. The yarn is cute, though, so I should frog this project to make other cute baby things.
Finally, and this one makes me sad, Lys. I was so excited to make this sweater. I saved up the money to buy all of the required yarns. But as I was making it, I just didn’t like it. I haven’t been able to bring myself to frog the completed pieces. There are lots of yarn changes in this project, so I’m not sure how much of the yarn I can save. I’m sure a lot of it will be thrown out. But I should have some worsted weight yarn I can safe to at least make hats or fingerless mitts or something. It would be a better use of the yarn than it sitting in my stash in the form of a sweater I will never finish. This one in particular makes me feel like a failure, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
I’m not sure when I will get started on all of these, as I’m trying to finish some baby projects first. Maybe next month?

I vote for finishing the Gerda’s Scarf, I really want to see that completed.
